Veneer

A thin layer of fine wood applied to a less expensive material, often used to achieve an attractive appearance at a lower cost. Veneers are used on furniture, doors, and paneling. Example: The dining room table was topped with a cherry wood veneer, giving it a luxurious appearance without the cost of solid cherry.
