Undercoat

A preliminary layer of paint applied to a surface, which serves as a base for subsequent layers of paint. It helps improve adhesion and covers underlying colors. Example: Before painting the living room walls, an undercoat was applied to ensure a uniform finish and to enhance the durability of the topcoat.
